<description>Asian Development Bank (ADB) report defined poverty as more than the lack of income. It is a deprivation of and lack of access to essential assets. One of the essential assets that Filipinos need is the human capital. The two most important human capital investments are in education and health. Although Filipinos boast in being the highly literate population, the ADB Report in 2000 indicate that only 20% of population graduated in elementary, 20% high school and 10% graduated college.Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity International, the professional organization of Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity, also known as Betans desire to give back to our country and alma mater what was given to us by investing in the education of those that follow us. Hence this Philippines Scholarship Program was born. This Scholarship Program is not for profit, and managed by Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity International where one of the focus is to endow with financial aid, grant and scholarship qualified engineering students from Central Philippine University, University of Iloilo, Western Institute of Technology and University of San Agustin, all in Iloilo City, Philippines. Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity International is a non-profit organization based in Draper, Utah, United States of America. This professional fraternal organization is exclusive and open to any alumni member of the Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity from Central Philippine University, University of Iloilo, University of San Agustin and Western Institute of Technology. Phi Beta Epsilon Fraternity International is a global organization with members from Asia-Pacific, Australia, Philippines, Canada, Middle East and United States of America. The Proposed Scholarship Program was raised up and unanimously endorsed by the members of the different PBEFI geographical chapter. The initial phase of Scholarship Fund Raise Drive was started during a big event held in Iloilo City, Philippines last year. It was agreed that whatever the PBEFI-Visayas and Manila Chapters will raise, will be matched by the foreign PBEFI members times five. The Executive Committee spearheads this cause with the help of the U.S. West Coast Betans. Brod Danny Damasco a member from Betans U.S. West Coast Chapter was endorsed and appointed by the Executive Committee to lead and chair this drive. His team is known as the Scholarship Groundworks Team. We acknowledge that the impact of this effort is relatively small in comparison to the challenge we face. We, therefore, extend this challenge to everyone, who has a giving heart. The small amount you give might be a great Filipino Engineer someday.
